Indian markets ended in the negative terrain today as traders booked profits after fears of Greece debt crisis resurfaced. Oil & gas, metals and PSU stocks were the worst hit while realty and IT stocks showed some strength. The Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex ended at 17,714.40, lower by 255.62 points. The index touched a intra-day high of 17,960.91 and low of 17,695.51. The National Stock Exchange's Nifty closed at 5304.45, down by 70.20 points. The index slipped to a low of 5290.25 from a high of 5383.65. Losses in SAIL (-7.11%), Hindalco Industries (-4.86%), HDFC (-3.08%), ICICI Bank (-2.79%) and Tata Steel (-2.36%) pressured the Nifty. BSE Midcap Index ended 0.40 per cent lower and BSE Smallcap Index closed 0.38 per cent lower. Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Oil & gas Index was down 1.88 per cent, BSE Metal Index slipped 1.87 per cent and BSE Bankex moved 1.65 per cent lower. BSE Realty Index gained 0.55 per cent and BSE IT Index moved 0.34 per cent up.
