The Sensex at the Bombay Stock exchange rose a modest 40 points, or 0.3 percent, to 16,070 on Thursday. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange gained 12 points, or 0.3 percent, to 4,870.Stock markets in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and South Korea ended mixed.
