Sensex drops more than 140pts in noon trade

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange fell 116 points, or 0.6 per cent, to 19,338 in early trade, today, on fresh selling by investors, amid negative Asian bourses. Later, the Sensex remained weak, and stood 142 points, or 0.7 percent in the red, at 19,312 in afternoon deals, a short while ago.Other key Asian markets in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Taiwan, Singapore and South Korea had lost between 0.1 percent and 1.2 percent, today, after US House Republican leaders cancelled a planned vote that would permit higher taxes, amid stalled budget talks. Wall Street's Dow Jones Industrial Average had gained 0.5 per cent in yesterday's trade.
