Sensex drops 78 points in noon trade

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange lost 151 points to 17,093, in early trade, this morning, on fresh selling by funds, amid falling global bourses. Later, the Sensex recovered some lost ground, to stand a more modest 78 points in the negative zone, at 17,166, in afternoon deals, a short while ago.Other Asian markets in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Singapore were down by between 0.1 percent and 1.2 percent, today. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average had plunged 1.7 per cent, overnight. Global stocks fell as fresh euro-zone debt worries, and concerns about global economic recovery dampened investor sentiment.
