Sensex down by 22 pts after losing initial gains

Giving up all its initial gains, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange had lost 22 points, or 0.1 percent, to 20,708 in afternoon trade, a short while ago, amid weak regional bourses, today. Earlier in the morning, the Sensex had gained 42 points, or 0.2 percent, on selective buying by funds and retail investors.Stock indices in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and South Korea had declined between 0.1 percent and 1.4 percent, today, after better than expected US economic data strengthened the case for further tapering of the Federal Reserve's bond-buying program. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average had lost 0.4 per cent in yesterday's trade.
