Sensex down by 17 pts in noon trade

The BSE benchmark Sensex erased initial gains due to sustained selling incapital goods, realty, PSU and teck sectors despite rise in Asian cues. It was trading 17 points down at 16830 a shortwhile ago.The Sensex resumed higher at 16,888 and moved between 16,900 and 16,800.The NSE 50-share Nifty also moved down by 6.70 points to 5103.Foreign institutional investors sold shares worth a net 372.21 crore rupees yesterday, as per provisional datareleased by the stock exchanges.Asian shares was trading steady early after bouncing from recent lows. Key indices in South Korea, Singapore, Japan,Hong Kong, China and Taiwan rose by up to 0.5 per cent.
