The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange fell 63 points, or 0.4 percent, to 16,850 in opening trade, this morning, amid profit-booking and weak global markets. But the Sensex later gained ground, and stood 56 points, or 0.3 percent in the green, at 16,969 a short while ago. However, stock markets in China, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong and South Korea were lower by between 0.1 percent and 2.3 percent, today, even as the US central bank said that the US economy is improving, and that it will keep interest rates low for an extended period. Wall Street itself had closed 0.1 per cent down, overnight.
