Sensex down 46 points

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange opened 92 points, or 0.5 per cent lower, at 17,639, this morning, on selling pressure triggered by weak Asian markets. After a partial recovery, the Sensex stood 46 points, or 0.3 percent in the red, at 17,685, a short while ago. Stock markets in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea were lower by between 0.5 percent and 2 percent, today, on worries about global economic recovery. Over in the US, the Dow Jones Industrial Average has slumped 1.4 per cent, overnight, amid fresh signs of consumer weakness, and concerns about stringent financial sector regulation.
