Sensex down 33 pts to 15,841 in opening trade

The BSE Sensex fell by nearly 33 points in opening trade today. It extended yesterday's losses in the absence of worthwhile buying activity by foreign funds in the holiday mood ahead of the year ending amid a weakening trend on other Asian bourses.The 30-share BSE benchmark index, which lost 97 points in yesterday's trade, lost another 33 points, or 0.21 per cent, to 15,841 in opening trade today.In a similar fashion, the wide-based National Stock Exchange Nifty index declined by 10 points, or 0.22 per cent, to 4,740 points.Stocks of banking, consumer durables, capital goods and realty sectors were under pressure, pulling the Sensex down.In the Asia region, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index was down by 0.33 per cent and Japan's Nikkei index lost 0.05 per cent in morning trade today. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.02 per cent lower in yesterday's trade.
