Sensex declines 190 points in afternoon deals

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange declined 185 points, or 1 per cent, to 17,568 in early trade, today, as funds and retail investors booked profits after recent gains, amid subdued regional bourses.Later, the Sensex remained weak, and stood 190 points, or 1.1 percent in negative territory, at 17,563 in afternoon deals, a short while ago. Shares of public sector, ONGC fell slightly, after an initial spike, as bidding began in a one-day auction for sale of 5 per cent government stake in the energy giant.Key stock indices in Japan,Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Indonesia were down by upto 1 percent, today, after US central bank chairman, Ben Bernanke dashed hopes of additional quantitative easing, and expressed a cautious view on US economic recovery. Wall Street's Dow Jones Industrial Average had lost 0.4 per cent, overnight.
