Stock markets opened on a subdued note on the first trading day of 2018. The benchmark BSE Sensex declined 18 points to 34,039 in early trade on profit-booking after recent gains. The broad-based NSE Nifty was down 13 points to 10,518. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 0.48 per cent down on the final day of 2017 on Friday.
