Domestic equity benchmarks today dropped marginally, tracking losses in index heavyweights amid mixed cues from global markets. Gold prices in the national capital rose to 54,538 rupees per 10 grams.
The BSE Sensex ended 129 points or 0.34 percent lower at 37,607, while the NSE Nifty fell 29 points or 0.26 per cent to 11,073.
In the broader market at BSE, the Mid-cap and Small-cap outperformed the Sensex. Mid-cap closed 0.36 percent up and Small-cap gained 0.82 percent. The Indian rupee settled three paise higher at 74 rupees and 81 paise against the US dollar tracking weakness in the American currency.
Gold prices in the national capital gained 687 rupees to 54,538 rupees per 10 grams on recovery in international prices. Silver was also in demand as it jumped 2,854 rupees to 65,910 rupees per kg.
And In intra-day trade, Brent crude prices were trading at 43 dollars and 30 cents per barrel while WTI crude prices were at 40 dollars and 30 cents per barrel.
