The Sensex and the Nifty today climbed around two percent. Both domestic key stock indices rose in sync with gains in global share markets. The BSE Sensex closed above 57,800 points while the NSE Nifty ended near 17,300 level.
The rupee also appreciated to settle below 76 rupees per US dollar mark. AIR correspondence reports, The Sensex climbed 1047 points, or 1.84 percent to settle at 57,864. The Nifty was also up 312 points, or 1.84 percent, to trade at 17,287.
In the forex market, the rupee strengthened 46 paise against the US dollar amid weakness in the American currency. The local unit appreciated to trade below 76 rupees per dollar mark. The domestic currency was trading at 75 rupees and 81 paise per dollar.
Gold prices rose 520 rupees at Multi Commodity Exchange for April contracts. The precious metal was trading at 51,670 rupees per 10 gram. Silver prices also gained 1220 rupees to 68,520 rupees per kilogram for May Contracts.
Brent crude oil prices rose to trade around 104 US dollars per barrel. In intra-day trade, Brent crude was trading around 103 dollars and 80 cents per barrel.
