The Sensex at the Bombay stock Exchange extended its losses on the back of weak cues from European markets. The Sensex lost 219.43 points to close at 16789. 74. Sell-off was seen in realty, capital goods, auto, power and metal stocks. Shares of ICICI Bank, SBI, SAIL, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors and Reliance Infrastructure declined in today's session. However, buying continued in Bharti Airtel, ITC, HUL, HDFC Bank and M&M. The BSE Midcap index shed 139.73 points to close at 6444.27 and BSE small cap index plunged by 152.62 points to close at 7647.77. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange lost 75 points to close at 4988.60.
