Sensex closes 189 points lower

Falling for the fifth straight session, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange declined 189 points, or 1 percent, to 19,263, today. The market fell on sustained selling by investors, on lower-than-expected industrial output data, weak Asian bourses, and high crude oil prices. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange dropped 56 points, or 1 percent, to 5,786.Stock markets in Japan, China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore lost between 0.2 percent and 0.8 percent.
