The Sensex and the Nifty today climbed more than one percent. Domestic stock indices gained amid positive cues from global share markets. The Sensex at Bombay Stock Exchange closed above 57,300 points while the Nifty at National Stock Exchange settled above 17,200 level. The Sensex rose 777 points, or 1.37 percent to trade at 57,357 while the Nifty surged 247 points, or 1.46 percent, to trade at 17,201.
In the broader market at the BSE, the Mid-Cap gained 1.62 percent while the Small-Cap index ended 0.76 percent up. In the Sensex pack, 26 companies logged gain while four declined. Mahindra & mahindra was top gainer as it added 4.1 percent followed by Power Grid which gained 3.9 percent. Titan climbed 3.8 percent and IndusInd Bank rose 3.5 percent. On the other hand, Axis Bank fell 0.7 percent.
In sectoral indicies at BSE, all indicies witnessed gains. Power index surged 3.6 percent and Realty index climbed 3.5 percent. Utilities jumped 3.4 percent and Auto index gained 2.8 percent. The overall breadth of the BSE trade was positive as shares of 1907 companies gained while 1502 fell. Shares of 93 companies remained unchanged.
