The Sensex and the Nifty today gained more than half a percent in the afternoon trade amid positive global cues. The Sensex was trading above the 58,500 mark while the Nifty was trading above the 17,450 level.

The Sensex climbed 371 points, or 0.64 percent to trade at 58,513 while the Nifty surged 125 points, or 0.72 percent, to 17,477, when reports last came in.
