Sensex 272 pts up in afternoon deals

Snapping its six-session losing streak, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex made a strong comeback and was trading 272 points up at 17,130 in afternoon deals. Earlier, the 30-share BSE barometer, which had lost nearly 1,455 points in the past six sessions to hit a 14-month low, rose by 398 points to 17,256 in morning trade.Similarly, the broad-based National Stock Exchange Nifty index was trading 90 points up at 5,163 points.In the Asian region, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index rose by 3.70 per cent, while Japan's Nikkei gained 1.72 per cent in morning trade today. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 3.98 per cent higher in the previous session.
