In Nepal, with a day left for the Constituent Assembly term to come to an end, the senior leaders of the three major parties have intensified their talks in Kathmandu today. A meeting of the UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN-UML is on. On Thursday, the parties held a six-hour long meeting and decided to continue their talks today in order to evolve consensus to extend the term of the Constituent Assembly. At a function in the capital , Maoist Vice Chairman Baburam Bhattarai claimed that the three parties would come to an agreement on the extension of the Constituent Assembly by today or by tomorrow.He said there is a no alternative to extending the term of the Constituent Assembly. The main opposition Nepali Congress has been saying that it will not accept the extension of Constituent Assembly term unless the Maoists hand over their combatants' weapons to the government.The Assembly which also functions as the Legislature-Parliament has also not been able to take up the ruling government's bid to table the amendment bill for Constituent Assembly extension for the last five days. The Assembly is scheduled to meet this evening.
