Senior journalist shot dead by unidentified assailants

In Mumbai, a senior journalist with an English daily has been shot dead by unidentified assailants. Joint Police Commissioner (Law & Order) Rajnish Seth said the journalist – Jyoti Dey was shot dead in Powai area by four motorcycle-borne assailants. The assailants later escaped from the spot. Dey was heading the crime bureau at Mid-Day. He had extensively reported on oil mafia operating off shore and the under world. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni has condemned the killing of senior journalist Jyoti Dey working with English tabloid 'Mid-Day'. In her condolence massege, Soni said this act has challenged the freedom of press. This incident is a sign of insanity perpetuated by mindless individuals in which innocent citizens are killed. No civilised society can tolerate this. She expressed confidence that the Home Minister of Maharashtra will live up to his assurance of tracking down the assailants in the shortest possible time.
