In Gujarat, a member of the Special Investigation Team has claimed that Ishrat Jehan was killed in a fake encounter by the Gujarat police. Ahmedabad Joint Commissioner of Police Satish Verma filed an affidavit in this regard in the Gujarat High Court on Friday. In his affidavit, Mr. Verma has said that a 19-year-old Ishrat was wrongly killed by the police in 2004, and a separate FIR should be filed in this case. Ishrat was shot dead along with her boyfriend and two others in June 2004 on the outskirts of Ahmedabad.Later, police claimed that the group was on its way to assassinate Chief Minister Narendra Modi on behalf of Pakistan based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT). Our Ahmedabad Correspondent reposts that the affidavit filed by Shri Verma was significant after the Gujarat High Court had ordered to constitute the three member Special Investigation Team to investigate the case. Other two members of the SIT are Joint Commissioner of the Delhi Police Karnal Singh, who was named the head while the police officer from Gujarat Mr. Mohan Jha is a member.
