Senior BSP leader Intezar Abidi arrested in murder case

In Uttar Pradesh, police have arrested ruling Bahujan Samaj Party leader Intezar Ahmad Abdi alias Bobby from Lucknow in connection with the murder of a state government employee Saif Haider Naqvi alias Saifi. He was working in the State Social Welfare Department. Saifi, was shot dead by unidentified persons near his house on March 2 this year. AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that his name surfaced in the case after the arrest of two shooters by Delhi police last month. They are said to have admitted that contract for killing was given by Abdi. He was arrested yesterday evening from Wazirganj police station area. The state government has removed him from the post of chairman of Ganna Sansthan. He was given status of Minister of state by the Mayawati government. Abdi was also named along with one BSP MLA in an arson attack at Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president Rita Bahuguna Joshi's residence in 2009 in Lucknow. He was arrested in March this year in the arson case and was released by the local court on bail. Congress has been demanding CBI inquiry into the incident but the state government had handed over the case to CB CID for investigation. Dr. Joshi has also filed a case in the Allahabad High Court in this regard. On the direction of a local court police had lodge an FIR against the BSP MLA and nine others, including three police officers for their alleged involvement into the arson case.
