Selja urges southern states to emulate N India to attract tourists

The Union Tourism Minister Kumari Selja called upon southern states to emulate North India in setting up a Tourism Golden Triangle circuit to attract tourists. She was speaking at the Regional Conference of Tourism Ministers of southern states in Bangalore on Saturday. <br/><br/>Golden Triangle circuit integrates several tourist destinations of North India, making the travel package more attractive to foreign tourists, she informed briefing about the initiatives taken by her Ministry. ‘Visa on Arrival’ Scheme for foreign tourists started this month is expected to give tremendous boost to inbound tourists as this has already sent positive signals to the source market. <br/><br/>She suggested to Tourism ministers of South to prepare a master project proposal, integrating tourist attractions of entire South. Speaking about foreign tourist arrivals she said, during December last year tourist arrivals from abroad multiplied, indicating that India is again figuring prominently among the travel plans globally. She said that tourism growth rate of 8 percent recorded in India was the highest in the entire world during the current year. Market Development Assistance Scheme has been modified to enable approved tourism providers in the southern region to avail financial support for overseas promotional activities. <br/><br/>She disclosed that a new award has been constituted for Best Civic Management of a Tourist Destination in India. The Chief Minister of State B S Yeddyurappa, Minister of State for Tourism Sultan Ahmed, Tourism ministers of Southern States and Secretary, Tourism Sujit Banerjee were present on this occasion.
