Seema Punia clinches Silver in Women's Discus Throw and in Table Tennis, India bags Silver in Mens' Doubles

In the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, Vijender Singh, Manpreet Jangra, Devendro Laishram and Laishram Devi have assured at least four Silver medals for India in Boxing. The four pugilists advanced to their finals Friday to ensure at least a second place finish in their respective categories. However, Pinki Rani in the 48-51 kg category settled for a bronze medal after she lost her semi-final bout against Michaela Walsh of Northern Ireland.In Athletics, Seema Punia clinched Silver in the Women's Discus Throw event, with an effort of 61.61 metres. Krishna Poonia finished fifth in the event.In Women's High Jump, G. Nagaraj advanced to the finals. Ravinder Singh Khaira and Vipin Kasana in the Javelin Throw, and Arpinder Singh in Triple Jump also made it to the finals. The finals will be played today.In Table Tennis, India settled for Silver medal in Men's Doubles section after the pair of Achanta Sharath Kamal and Anthony A lost to the Singapore duo of Ning Gao and Hu Li, 1-3 in the Gold medal match. In the Singles, Soumyajit Ghosh and Harmeet Desai crashed out, while Achanta booked a semi-final berth.In Squash, the Women's Doubles team of Dipika Pallikal and Joshana Chinappa stormed into the final assuring at least a Silver medal. The final will take place today.In Badminton, PV Sindhu, P. Kashyap and RMV Gurudsaidutt advanced to the Singles semi-finals, with the pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa also progressing to the semi-finals in Women's Doubles.The Indian Women's Hockey team won the 5th-6th-position match against hosts Scotland, 2-1.With 13 Gold, 23 Silver and 15 Bronze, India at the fifth spot in the medals tallies. England is at the top, followed by Australia at second, Canada at third and Scotland at the fourth spot.
