Security & strategic analyst Subrahmanyam passes away

India's first security and strategic analyst K Subrahmanyam, passed away in New Delhi on Wednesday morning after a prolonged illness. He was 82. Subrahmanyam was suffering from cancer and diabetes but his end came following a heart attack. A prominent international strategic affairs analyst, journalist and a former Indian civil servant, Subrahmanyam headed the Kargil Committee. He was the founding Director of the security think-tank, Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses. He also headed the Prime Minister's Task Force on Global Strategic Developments.The Vice President Mohd. Hamid Ansari has condoled the death of K. Subrahmanyam. In a condolence message, Mr Ansari said, Mr. Subrahmanyam was one of the first to have actively encouraged and initiated a process of strategic analysis and thinking among policy makers, the media and even common citizens.The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has condoled the death of prominent security expert Mr K. Subrahmanyam. In a condolence message, Dr Singh said that Subrahmanyam made important and lasting contributions to the evolution of India's defence, security and foreign policies. He said, in the passing away of Mr Subrahmanyam, the country has lost an outstanding public servant, visionary and thinker.
