Security stepped up in Patna for Mukhiya funeral

In Bihar, heavy deployment of forces have been made in Patna in view of cremation of slain Brahmeshwar Mukhiya, founder of the erstwhile outlawed Ranveer Sena. The last rites of Mukhia will be performed on the banks of river Ganges in the state capita today.

The funeral procession started from Ara earllier. A large no followers of Mukhia are participating in the procession. Rapid Action Forces, CRPF and Bihar Military forces had already been deployed at Patna to prevent any eventuality. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made a fervent appeal to the people of the state to maintain peace and harmony at all costs.

Meanwhile, Union Home Secretary RK Singh said the killing of Mukhiya was a case of concern and the Bihar Government was capable of dealing with it.

Talking to reporters in Patna, Singh ruled out any intervention by the Centre in the matter. He said the Centre was keeping a close eye on the situation in the wake of violent protest after the killing. Union Home Secretary is to review the law and order situation in the state today.
