Security of coastlines cannot be ignored: Antony

Defence Minister A K Antony today warned that Security forces will face a hot summer with sustained attempts being made from across the border to sneak in more terrorists.The minister told reporters that those inimical to India's interest are sending more and more terrorists across the border .He said,the army is ready to face attempts to sneak in more<br/><br/>terrorists from across the border this summer. Mr.Antony informed, the government is very clear that there is an urgent need to modernise the armed forces.He further said ,after 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, everybody realised<br/><br/>that coastal security is becoming very important.The minister said, Naval aircraft carrier Gorshkov, acquired from Russia<br/><br/>would be commissioned in the Indian Navy in 2012 and the indigenous aircraft carrier being built at Kochi would be commissioned in 2014. Our correspondent reports,with over 300 militants active in the valley and another 400 waiting to cross over from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, the Army apprehends escalation in infiltration and violence in Jammu and Kashmir in the coming months. Weapons, ammunition, equipment, food items, medicines and also some video-clips and photographs recovered from slain militants in recent weeks clearly indicated a high degree of desperation of terrorists and their mentors. According to the Army, 42 training camps were intact across the border. Of them 34 are active and 400 militants are waiting for an opportunity to cross over to this side from 20 launching pads.
