Security has been intensified in Chirang and Kokrajhar districts of Assam after stray incidents of violence reported in the last 24 hours. Indefinite curfew continues in Chirang district since last evening after unidentified miscreants killed five persons. But curfew has been relaxed in Kokrajhar district for 17 hours from 4am to 9 pm. Assam Police and para-military forces launched a massive operation to nab the culprits. 94 people have lost their lives in recent violence and another 75 people sustained injuries.
Talking to AIR, state Home Secretary G D Tripathi said that two senior police officials have been deployed to monitor the situation in Chirang district. Eighty additional companies of Central Para-military forces have been deployed . Fifteen columns of army continued flag march to maintain peace. Mr.Tripathi also said that 122 fixed and mobile security pickets have been set up and security personnel have also been positioned.
Meanwhile, as a part of confidence building measures, an all party delegation will visit the violence hit areas from tomorrow to appeal all sections of people to maintain age-old unity and brotherhood of Assam.
