Security has been intensified across Assam to avert any untoward incident in the run up to the Independence Day celebrations. State Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) LR Bishnoi said general alert had already been sounded at all the districts in view of anti-talk faction of ULFA engaging in subversive activities. Bishnoi said patrolling had been intensified in vulnerable areas. The Police, Army, BSF and CRPF have been deployed for round the clock vigil at the playgrounds where the Independence Day functions will be held. It may be recalled two ULFA cadres were killed in Goalpara district on August 5 in an encounter with the security forces. Both were suspected to be involved in IED blast at Baamughopa in the same district on July 31, which left one army personnel dead. Earlier, Situation has improved in the violence-hit areas of Assam.The District Administration relaxed day curfew in Kokrajhar and Chirang district today. A CBI team on Friday visited Kokrajhar district and met local people to gather preliminary information. The CBI will investigate the pattern of the violence, which displaced 4 lakh people in three districts. UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde are likely to visit Kokrajhar and Dhubri on Monday. Meanwhile, the Assam Government has taken slew of initiatives as a part of confidence building measures.
