A strict vigil is being maintained by security forces in violence hit Kokrajhar district of Assam. State Law and Order Additional Director General of Police A P Rout, who is camping in Kokrajhar town, said that the situation is under control. Rout said that in an isolated incident, one security personnel was injured and miscreants snatched away his rifle at Serfanguri area. So far 10 persons have died and nine injured in recent violence. District administration has set up a Helpline desk to provide required information. The number of the Helpdesk is- 03661-270657.
Meanwhile, curfew continues in the entire district for consecutive third day on Saturday. The local people complain of running out of necessary food items as the markets are closed in the wake of curfew. Five columns of army are doing flag marches at Kokrajhar and Gossaigaon town. Police and Para-military forces are also doing round the clock vigil. The Assam government has sought 10 additional companies of Para-military force from the Centre to intensify search operation against illegal arms. The district administration removed house guards from the residences of Executive Members of Bodoland Territorial Council, BTC and also removed sophisticated weapons from their security personnel.
