Security Council to discuss withdrawal of 20 thousand foreign troops

The UN Security Council is sending a delegation to the Democratic Republic of Congo on Saturday to discuss the timing of withdrawal of the 20 thousand foreign troops there. There is a disagreement between Congolese President Joseph Kabila and the UN over the departure of the troops. The UN has accepted that the mandate of peace keeping force in Congo should be revised and the troops should eventually be withdrawn. It agrees with President Kabila that situation has significantly improved since the end of the bloody civil war a decade ago. The Congo President wants the UN troops out by 2012. The UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, however, has recommended a phased withdrawal over three years.
