Security has been tightened in the national capital. Elaborate ground-to-air security and traffic arrangements have been made. Around ten thousand security personnel from the Delhi Police and Paramilitary forces are keeping a hawk-eyed vigil to thwart any threat.
Besides, around five thousand personnel from the Special Cell and Security wing of the Delhi Police has been pressed into service for security. Additional manpower from CISF and Delhi Police have been deployed at important public installations like Delhi Metro and IGI Airport in addition to crowded areas like market places, railway stations, inter-state bus terminals and other establishments of strategic importance.
In Jammu and Kashmir elaborate security arrangements are in place to thwart any militant attempts to create disturbances on the occassion of Independence Day.
Checks have intensified and venues of independence day parades all across the valley have been put under a thick security cover. AIR correspondent reports that Bakshi stadium, the venue of the main state level function in Srinagar has been sealed and a three-layer security ring has been laid around it.
State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will hoist the tri olour and address the gathering in the stadium. All vehicles entering the city are checked and additional nakas have been set up keeping in view recent militant attacks and attempts of infiltration. A vigil is being maintained in all the districts.
Strict security measures have been put in place across the North Eastern states, including Assam, for the Independence Day. The Assam government has already sounded high alert to foil any subversive attempts of militants groups.
