Security beefed up in Cairo after protesters broke into Israeli Embassy

In Egypt , police forces have been deployed in various areas of capital Cairo after a night of violence during which angry protesters broke into the Israeli Embassy in Cairo . The interior ministry has ordered all police officers back on duty and cancelled vacations. During the night, protestors tore down a cement barrier around the building and threw documents out of the windows. The Israeli ambassador and his family left the country after the incident. According to official MENA news agency, 448 people were injured in overnight clashes between thousands of protesters and police, who fired tear gas to disperse the crowd. Forty-six policemen were also hurt and 17 protesters were arrested. A statement from Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak said that he has asked US to protect the embassy from the demonstrators. US has called on the Egyptian government to honour its international obligations and protect the embassy.
