In Afghanistan, security has been beefed up in capital Kabul ahead of the swearing in of President Hamid Karzai for his second term on Thursday. Mr. Karzai was re-elected in the elections held on August 20. There are threats of militant groups disrupting Thursday’s ceremony and authorities are taking no chances to ward off any such possibility. Journalists have been barred from attending the function directly rather a media facility has been created at state television headquarters for coverage. All flights from Kabul international airport have been cancelled from Wednesday evening till Thursday to facilitate arrival and departure of foreign dignitaries. Security companies have advised international staff to remain indoors as major roads around Kabul will be closed to traffic. Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardai and external affairs minister Mr. S. M. Krishna are among dozens of foreign dignitaries who will be present for tomorrow ceremony. Foreign ministers of US, UK and France are expected among a guest list of around eight hundred people from within the country and abroad.
