In Andhra Pradesh, elaborate security arrangements have been made in the wake of the ‘Million March to Hyderabad ‘ agitation called by the Telangana Joint Action Committee on Thursday. Pressing the demand for introducing the bill in Parliament to carve out Telangana state, the Telangana JAC has called for the march of a million supporters to Hyderabad. Security has beefed up at all important places in Hyderabad as police have not given permission to the March. Additional forces, including the central paramilitary troops, were deployed in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad to maintain law and order. Prohibitory orders and restrictions under section 144 of IPC have been imposed. Barricades have been put up at all important places on the outskirts of Hyderabad and other places in Telangna Districts to prevent activists joining the protest. Security has been stepped up at the Assembly building as it is in session and also at all other vital installations in the state capital. Traffic restrictions and diversions have been imposed in the city and near the Tank Bund, the main venue of the protest. However, students who are writing Board examinations have been exempted from the restrictions. The Telangana Rastra Samithi, CPI and BJP have extended support to the march, while the Telangana Forum of Telugu Desam Party and Congress leaders from the region have backed the protest. Student and civil liberties organizations also announced their support. Meanwhile, police have taken scores of Telangana JAC activists into preventive custody in Telangana Districts to foil the march and prevent people from reaching Hyderabad.
