Security arrangements tightened near Osmania University in Hyderabad following violence

In Andhra Pradesh, tight security arrangements have been made near the Osmania University in Hyderabad following Thursday’s violence. According to police, the situation is peaceful and calm so far in the university after Thursday night incidents. Meanwhile, Bandh call given by the Student Joint Action Committee of the University has evoked partial response today from the educational institutions in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Deputy Police Commissioner of Police Yoganand said the Police would act to maintain law and order. Besides armed forces, 8 companies of Rapid Action Forces have been deployed to maintain law and order near the University. The pro-Telangana students were agitating for the past few days demanding the postponement of written test for Sub Inspector posts. They are demanding that Hyderabad should be considered as part of the VI zone for the recruitments. Andhra Pradesh was divided into 6 zones many years back for police recruitments however, as per the Presidential order; Hyderabad was not in VIth zone as part of Telangana. Now, the agitators were demanding to put on hold the examination till a constitutional amendment was made to declare Hyderabad as part of VIth zone. However, the State Government has decided to conduct the examination as per schedule assuring the agitators that the recruitment in Hyderabad will be kept in abeyance till the matters resolved.
