Home Minister P. Chidambaram has said the Commonwealth Games village would be taken over by security agencies by today while 10 other venues have already been brought under the security blanket. In an interview to a TV channel, he said the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee had completed its task of construction and cleaning and security arrangements are being put in place subsequently.Chidambaram said team managers had expressed their satisfaction over security arrangements. The Gurgaon Police has taken over the security of the Kadarpur shooting range.Meanwhile, the mood in Delhi has brightened up with athletes from abroad started arriving in the city. A 22-member contingent from England was the first to come. A few Australian athletes have checked into the Village despite previous concerns about hygiene. The first batch of Scottish athletes will be reaching today. The contingent will comprise archery, lawn bowls, shooting, tennis and weightlifting teams. Top notch sporting countries Australia, New Zealand and Canada have confirmed their participation.As the organisers of Games are racing against time to finish pending work, the Commonwealth Games Federation president Mike Fennel on Friday visited the Games village to review the preparations. He said considerable improvements had been made there. Later, he met Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrashekar to take stock of the preparations.The Prime Minister had directed that everything should be done to ensure the success of the games. Minister of State in the PMO Prithviraj Chavan said Dr Manmohan Singh took personal initiative to see no stone unturned to make the mega event a grand success.
