In Nigeria, sectarian violence in northern region forced the military to patrol the streets to guard frightened residents who were attacked by rioters protesting against the victory of Goodluck Jonathan in last week's Presidential poll. Protesters killed several people and torched churches, mosques and homes including the house of the country’s Vice President, Namadi Sambo in northern Nigeria. The riots broke out in cities of Kano, Kaduna, Maiduguri, Gombe, Adamawa and some other major metropolis in the north.’
