Second round of talks between government and striking AI pilots begins

The second round of talks between the government and the striking Air India pilots has begun to end the strike. An Air India spokesman told AIR this morning that some progress was made in the talks and many points have been covered. The spokesman said that the national carrier has also opened bookings for Metro sectors from today. Bookings for other domestic sectors will continue to be suspended till Sunday. Speaking to reporters late Wednesday night, the General Secretary of Indian Commercial Pilots Association said after the meeting that finally the talks have begun and are moving forward in a positive direction. The association is demanding pay parity with their counterparts working in Air India before the merger of the two airlines besides a CBI probe into the alleged mismanagement, corruption and withdrawal of flights from profitable routes. The national airline operated on Wednesday over ten percent of its daily domestic flights. They include ten each from Mumbai and Delhi. AIR correspondent reports that the domestic Air India services continue to be crippled on the ninth day of the strike with passengers bearing the brunt.
