The second phase of Zila and Taluk Panchayat elections will be held in Karnataka today. 17 Zila Panchayats and 103 Taluk Panchayats will go to the polls in this phase. An electorate of 1.54 crore will decide the fate of 9,595 candidates in fray for 595 Zila Panchayat and 2,163 Taluk Panchayat seats. A total of 18,203 polling stations have been set up. For the ruling BJP, it is a litmus test of its popularity, especially after facing serious charges of corruption in the recent days. Chief Minister Yeddyurappa, against whom the Opposition parties made a series of corruption charges and demanded his ouster, vigorously campaigned in the polls. The Congress and JD(S) are focusing on the corruption charges against the Chief Minister in the polls. The counting will be held on the 4th of January.
