Second phase of polling underway in J&K, Jharkhand amid tight security

In Jammu and Kashmir, after a dull beginning due to severe cold, polling has started picking up in all the 18 Assembly constituencies spread over five districts in the second phase of five-phased elections in the state. Long queues could be seen outside the polling stations in districts of Kupwara and Kulgam in the Valley. About twenty percent polling has been reported from the four assembly constituencies of Kulgam district till 11. Am.

Polling in all the nine constituencies of Poonch, Udhampur and Reasi districts of Jammu Region is also going on peacefully and smoothly. In first three hours, highest 30 percent polling was recorded from Reasi constituency. Average poll percentage recorded in first three hours is around 20 percent. No report of any untoward incidence so far.

Jharkhand recorded over 32 percent voting till 11 AM for the second phase in 20 seats, which is higher than of first phase where 27.72 percent polling that had taken place then, till this time. Voting will continue upto 3 PM in 18 seats, while Jamshedpur East and Jamshedpur West will have polling upto 5PM. Nearly 33 lakhs and 31 thousands voters and 5011 booths are being provided security more than 40 thousands State and Central Police Forces.

Tight vigil on 20 sensitive booths of Khunti and 12 in Torpa are being kept through web camera. Re-polling at two booths 191 and 192,of Chatarpur and one of Garhwa are underway, as polling was countermanded here in the first phase. Barring few minor incidences, polling underway peacefully.
