The Kerala High Court today sentenced 24 more persons to life imprisonment in connection with the second Marad massacare case. All of them were among the 76 persons acquitted earlier by the Marad Special Court.A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court comprising Justices M Sasidhararan Nambiar and P Bhavadasan imposed a fine of 25,000 rupees each on them.The Division Bench also directed them to appear before the trial court on the 24th of this month.The High Court upheld the lower court order awarding life imprisonment to 62 accused in the case.However, the Division Bench turned down a prosecution appeal to award maximum sentence to 13 accused in the case.The Second Marad massacre took place on May 2, 2003 at Marad beach in Kozhikode in which nine persons were killed.
