Season's heaviest rainfall hit Delhi

The national capital received the season's heaviest downpour this morning bringing much needed relief from the scorching heat. Although the rain brought down the mercury levels, but scores of people were left stranded for hours in traffic jams as many parts of the city were waterlogged.

The Met office said the city received 54.5 millimeters of rain during the last 24 hours till 8.30 a.m. Haryana also received a total of 1980 mm rainfall today. Sonepat received highest rainfall of 151 mm and Bapouli in district Panipat received lowest rainfall of one mm today.

Several other states in North India were lashed with rain.

In Maharashtra, many districts in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra were lashed by heavy rains in the last twenty four hours. Normal life has been disrupted in Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Bhandara, Gondia and pockets of Nagpur. Water levels in streams, rivers and rivulets have also risen in the Vidarbha region.

In the naxal hit Gadchiroli district, 15 to 20 houses have collapsed due to the floods over the last 48 hours.
