Search operation to track down militants resumes in Kashmir

In Jammu & Kashmir, the search operation resumed this morning in north Kashmir's Kupwara district as the operation entered into 6th day today since the launch of operation on Friday. Yesterday, Colonel Santosh Mahadik of 41 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) succumbed to critical injuries after fierce encounter with militants in Manigah Hygam forest area of Kupwara district. <br/><br/>All the five force personnel including four Army jawans and a cop of Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K Police who sustained injuries in the ongoing operation, are undergoing specialized treatment in Military Hospital in Srinagar. Lt Gen DS Hooda, Army Commander, Northern Command expressed deep condolences on the loss of the brave Commanding Officer. <br/><br/>An Army spokesman told AIR that the cordon and search operation will continue to track down a group of three militants that is believed to have infiltrated into this side of Line of Control on 31st of last month. He said more reinforcement of troops, para commandos and SOG of State Police, has been rushed to the encounter area.
