Search for new uranium deposits to be stepped up: AEC chairman

The Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) Chairman Sekhar Basu has said that search for new uranium deposits in the country would be intensified to boost the production of nuclear fuel. He told reporters in Indore yesterday, that a fillip is going to be provided to the search for uranium deposits to enhance nuclear fuel production in the country. <br/><br/>At present, India has 2.70 lakh tonnes of uranium deposits. Mr. Basu said, that even half of its excavate is enough to run the existing nuclear projects. The AEC chairman added that opposition to uranium mining would end once people realize the importance of nuclear fuel.
