Search for missing Air Asia plane with 162 people aboard resumes

The search for the Air Asia passenger jet that vanished over Indonesian waters yesterday has resumed. 162 people were on board the airliner, when it disappeared from radar screens.

It was flying to Singapore from the Indonesia city of Surabaya. The search area has been concentrated around the island of Biliton in the Java Sea, that's where the plane last made contact with air traffic control.

The pilot had asked to change course to avoid storms, but made no distress call. Boss of AirAsia Tony Fernandes has flown to Surabaya airport where relatives and friends of the missing plane have gathered.
