In Tamil Nadu, scrutiny of nominations for the 39 Lok Sabha seats is taking place today. A total of 1318 candidates have filed their nominations.
This includes candidates of various parties and also independents all over the State. Alongwith the Loksabha election, the State will also face bye election for Alandur Assembly constituency which fell vacant due to the resignation of Panruti Ramachandran, of the DMDK. Panruti has joined the AIADMK after resignation from the Vijaykant led DMDK. After scrutiny of nominations today, the last date for withdrawal will be on the 9th of this month.
The date of poll is on the 24th of this month.
Election fever is catching up as leaders and star campaigners are touring throughout the 32 districts of the State making sure that they reach all the voters. All sorts of methods have been adopted for canvassing the voters.
Unmindful of the scorching heat, people are gathering at meetings of all parties to take a look at the party leaders or the star campaigners. The 16th Loksabha election in the State is bound to be a different one, Congress as the major National Party has been left alone after a very long time.
Similarly,AIADMK the ruling party in the State had also shunned all of its alliance parties Another national party, the BJP has formed an alliance for the first time with the DMDK led by Actor politician Vijayakant, MDMK led by Vaiko and the PMK led by Dr.Anbumani Ramdoss.
DMK, a long time ally of the Congress and an important member of the UPA has formed the Democratic Progressive Alliance with smaller parties like IUML, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal, Puthiya Tamilagam and Manithaneya Makkal Katchi,the Left parties, the CPI and CPI(M) on the other hand are contesting the polls without joining the others.
Many parties have made way for new faces and younger generations but still many former union Ministers are also in the fray. The debut of the Aam Admi Party in the State cannot be missed as they have fielded some of the anti nuclear protestors who will face the elections for the first time.
