Scrutiny of nomination papers for 2nd phase of Assam assembly polls to take place today

Assam, scrutiny of nomination papers for the second phase of polls will take place today. A total of 595 candidates have filed nominations for 61 seats . Polling will be held on 11th of April. Meanwhile, campaigning for the first phase of polls has gained momentum.<br/>AIR correspondent reports, BJP's Chief Ministerial candidate Sarbanand Sonowal will contest from Majuli. Congress has given ticket to sitting MLA Rajib Lochan Pegu who defeated his nearest rival by over 16 thousand vote in 2011. Apart from them, Hemanta Pegu from SUCI and Independent Ranjit Doley are also in the fray. Flood, land erosion and connectivity are some of the major issues in the river island Majuli. There are around 1 lakh 15 thousand voters in this constituency. Both BJP and Congress will bring star campaigners here to woo voters. While Prime Minister and senior BJP leader Narendra Modi will address a rally at Majuli on Saturday, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is likely to campaign for Congress candidate. Polling at Majuli will be held on 4th of April.
