At least eight people, mostly women, were killed and 117 tested positive for scrub typhus disease in Himachal Pradesh caused by infected mites. The most of the cases have come from Shimla, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Mandi and Solan districts. This was disclosed by doctors at the Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital in Shimla. The virus causing the disease enters human body through mites often found in the green grass during moist rainy season. When women go to collect grass from the field, mites bite them leading to irregular high fever, rash, headache, shivering and sweating.
