Scores feared trapped in landslide at Ambegaon in Pune district of Maharasthra

In Maharashtra, scores of people are feared trapped inside their houses following a landslide in Pune district today.

Police said, people living in about 35 houses have come under the debris of a hillock that caved in at Malin village in Ambegaon taluka of the district when they were asleep.

Rescue operations are on and a team of National Disaster Response Force, NDRF has been rushed to the village, about 120 km from Pune.

District Collector Saurav Rao said, the administration has mobilised rescue machinery to pull out those trapped.

He said, the exact number of casualties is not known as rescuers are moving slowly to ensure that those trapped are removed safely.

About 30 ambulances have been rushed from adjoining areas to extend medical help.

He said, earth moving equipment from government and private parties are being pressed into service.

Communication difficulties and rain are affecting the operations.
